Wembley Stadium to host extra UEFA Euro 2020 matches
07 December 2017
The UEFA Executive Committee has today confirmed that Wembley Stadium will now host three group stage games and one round of 16 fixture in UEFA EURO 2020. This is in addition to London staging the tournament’s semi-finals and the final, which were awarded to Wembley Stadium by UEFA in 2014.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the competition, UEFA EURO 2020 will be the first European Championship tournament to be held across multiple countries. Wembley Stadium is one of 12 venues across 12 different cities that will host the 24 nations competing in UEFA EURO 2020.

Speaking about today’s announcement, FA Chief Executive, Martin Glenn, said: "We are delighted to help UEFA by hosting the additional four matches at Wembley Stadium. It’s an honour to be one of the 12 nations that will play a part in this prestigious ‘EURO for Europe’ tournament and I would like to thank the UEFA Executive Committee for giving us the opportunity to stage these games.
"This has been a collective and collaborative process and we could not have done it without the support of the Government and the Mayor of London. Together we are determined to deliver open, inclusive and memorable events for the fans at one of the world’s greatest stadiums."
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: "It speaks volumes about our great city that London has been awarded an additional four EURO 2020 matches, reinforcing the capital’s reputation as the sporting capital of the world. It’s the perfect starting point for a tournament that will culminate in London proudly hosting the showpiece semi-finals and final. We look forward to welcoming some of the world’s best players and fans from around Europe and the world – confirming that #LondonIsOpen."
Minister for Sport, Tracey Crouch, said: "It's great news that Wembley will be hosting four additional matches at UEFA Euro 2020 on top of staging the semi-finals and the final. With matches being played across Europe, for the 60th anniversary of the competition, it will be a very special tournament and I know that we will give fans a warm welcome when they visit England's iconic national stadium."
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and The Football Association are now working to deliver a programme of community activity to capitalise on bringing even more fixtures of this global event to London. The capital will now take centre stage for the duration of the month long tournament and Londoners will be given a variety of opportunities to become involved as this major global sporting event takes place on their doorstep.
